Books I’m Reading Right Now

I used to read and write every single day, but over the years I slowly got busier and busier and didn’t have time for it anymore. But lately, I’ve been prioritizing my passions and now I make time to read and write every day! Here are books I recently picked up.

Big Magic | Elizabeth Gilbert

I’ve been wanting to read this for a long time, because I’ve seen it everywhere. And now that I’ve started writing my book (more on that later), it seemed like the perfect time to pick up a book about living your best creative life. I just finished this a couple days ago and I loved it. It’s full of motivation that slaps you right in the face and it’s what got me to finally sit down and write the first page of my book!

If you have a dream or a goal, but think it’s silly or are afraid to start because you’re afraid of failure, go pick this up.

Eat Pray Love | Elizabeth Gilbert

Since I’m going through a tough time and healing my heart, I’ve been reaching for “comeback” stories about people who also overcame their troubles and heartache to get back to being themselves again. I’ve obviously heard of Eat Pray Love (Julia Roberts’ movie… c’mon), but I’ve never read the book OR watched the movie. I know, I know…

And since this book was on sale, I figured it was a sign. I just cracked it open the other night, but I have a feeling I’m going to love it!

Uncommon Type | Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks is one of my favorite actors of all time, and when I saw that he wrote a book Iย had to have it. This is a collection of 17 short stories chronicling the every day norms of people from different walks of life. I’m so excited to dive into this!

What are you reading right now? I’d love to know so I can add to my list of books to read next! ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. I loved Eat Pray Love and was sorry to hear that Elizabeth Gilbert’s partner died recently. Haven’t read Big Magic but would love to. Ordered Tom Hank’s book so will be reading it soon!
I’m reading some great Canadian authors I love and looking forward to a few thrillers I have on my table right now.

    • I heard that too! It’s so sad, because I’ve just recently started learning about her and her life. I hope you love Tom Hanks’ book! I haven’t finished Eat, Pray, Love yet, but when I do I’m diving right into it! Which Canadian authors are you reading? One of my favorites is Kelley Armstrong, I just finished her Cainsville series and loved it!

  2. I’m a huge Elizabeth Gilbert fan!! Big Magic is amazing for creatives!! I’m currently in graduate school so I’m reading tons of textbooks, but over Xmas I read Becoming Myself by Irvin Yalom. Great man, great book.

In case you missed it, Tom Hanks talked all about his new book on The Beautiful Writers Podcast and it was a hoot! He’s phenomenal! I can’t wait to read his new one!

Best of luck on your book and new year!

  5. I had no idea that Tom Hanks wrote a book โ€“ I hope you write a review on it because it sounds interesting. I like that it is a collection of short stories, and the book cover is eye-catching. As for me, I will probably focus on reading short story collections, so that I can chip away bit by bit at a few books. I did add ‘The Immortalists’ to my Amazon wishlistโ€ฆI read that it’s about how four siblings live their lives after learning the date of their death.

  6. Love this post! I’ve made it a goal to read at least 24 books this year. I hope to read one fiction and one non-fiction book every month. I love reading and finding new books to read. I’m going to have to check our some of the ones you’ve recommended. I’ve heard a lot of great things about Eat Pray Love and Big Magic.

Oh thank goodness I’m not the only one in the universe that never watched or read Eat, Pray, Love LOL I thought I was all alone out here ๐Ÿ˜›
It’s on my to-do list for 2018 as well though, just because I don’t like feeling as though I’ve missed out on good things.
Tom Hanks is one of my favourites too- I had no idea he came out with a book but, now that I do, I”ll have to read it!

Right now I’m reading 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People and just finished Harry Potter, The Cursed Child. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • YES! So glad to know I’m not alone in this! I’m about halfway through Eat Pray Love and it’s so good so far! I hope you’re able to pick it up! And I read the 7 Habits books when I was a teen, I should check out the grown-up version haha! (And Harry Potter ALWAYS)

I didn’t know there were 2 different versions- I’m going to look into the other one for my son. He’s nearly 13 now and starting to talk more about his future so I would love to grab it for him.
He’s also reading Harry Potter… so odd to think the Philospher’s Stone anniversary addition is out now and I read it around his age. Gah. Feeling old.

Oh wow. I didn’t even know Tom Hanks had a book. I’m not big on books but do love magazines but haven’t had the time lately for it, well maybe for a long time since I became a mom. I do want to watch a lot of movies this year though and maybe watch the movies that I missed out on coz’ now it’s all about animation and cartoons.

    • I totally get no having enough time to sit down and read, it IS a luxury! Have you tried podcasts or audio books? Maybe you could listen to those while you drive or do housework, then at least that’s something! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • I’m definitely trying to read more this year. It was a goal of mine last year, and I did read a decent amount, but I did give up in the latter part of the year. I hope you’re able to read more this year too!

    • I definitely get sucked into nostalgia and the never-ending hole that it can be. Big Magic is a great read if you’re in a rut or feeling like your work is insurmountable in comparison to others. I really loved it!

Those all sound so interesting! Especially the history of love, I love that kind of stuff! But the murder mysteries always get me too… Sounds like I need a trip to the book store soon! ๐Ÿ™‚

      • the history of love has really, dare i say it, captured my heart. a more manly response would be to say, “has captured my interest,” either way i just cannot stop reading about love’s history.
